Acceptance hurdles (pass / fail)
All submissions must meet these to be listed. Not scored.
- Open source — codebase publicly available under an open source licence.
- Security — no obvious security vulnerabilities; the jury may exclude unacceptable risk.
- Data protection — accepted teams receive CHI's data protection requirements and must confirm compliance before listing; initial submissions demonstrate intent to comply.
Personal Data The detailed data protection requirements that will be shared with accepted teams are still being finalised. The simplest way to satisfy this hurdle is to not collect personal data at all, or only collect data on the users' device — see What we don't provide. However, we appreciate many solutions will require this, so please be mindful of what you are capturing and how you are storing data, to avoid challenges for later compliance.

Awards
In addition to the highlighted-app selection, the jury gives category awards (e.g. best user experience, most innovative, best for inclusion & accessibility; final categories to be confirmed). Awards will be announced live at CHI 2027.
